Teacher of Puerto Rican Artisans
Ruben prides himself in being a teacher to future Puerto Rican artisans. It is through the production of new artisans that the future of the art will be maintained. Ruben instructs classes in the city of Aguada, Puerto Rico and has done this for many years. He has graduated over 70 students, many of who have gone on to persue the art of carving as Puerto Rican Artisans. Students begin with a carving of a figure, typically a Virgen or similar figure and are shown how to carve step by step in a way that the technique will be useful in applying to future figures. Students are eventually given more than one project during the beginning class to complete, and students can move from one project to the other and back again to give them variety. The second project is less structured, allowing students to show their creativity and apply the techniques learned already. Currently Ruben offers a begining and an advanced course. If you are interested in taking part in these classes contact Ruben at 787 479-4692 in Aguada, Puerto Rico for more information.
